The International Society of Female Professionals Recognizes Martha Hanna-Smith


 

Martha Smith is Proprietor of Mattie’s Authentic Bahamian Creations, https://www.marthasparadise.com/,  where she has been for the last decade. A retired educator with over 50 years of experience in her career, she is responsible for creating food and beverages such as pepper sauce, jams, jellies, and tamarind products. She also created native teas and oversees the marketing and presentation for the products.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in History and General Studies from the University of the West Indies Jamaica. From there, she has ventured in manufacturing Jam and Pepper Sauces, and has been extremely successful. Through marketing, trade shows, and product development, Mattie’s Authentic Bahamian Creations is now a known brand. She has attended international conferences, including those in Career and Technical Education, and she is also a Facilitator.

After being awarded a grant, Martha is often on the road with her products, attending shows and expos to sell and spread work about her high quality products. In addition to the ISFP, Martha is a member of the Bahamas Network of Rural Women Producers, Caribbean Network of Rural Women Producers, and Bahamas National Craft Association.

She published a book about bush medicine in 2006, and is committed to empowering women in the islands. She is most proud of her teaching work, and credits her success to taking risks and being determined.

In her spare time she enjoys cooking, travel, and sewing. Always looking to helping others, she is a Red Cross Volunteer.
