The International Society of Female Professionals Recognizes Carmela Shabazz

Carmela Shabazz is Director, Corporate Development and Operations Support for Biomedical Research Alliance of New York. Her motto is “Focus on the Goal Not the Obstacles” and firmly believes that obstacles made her a stronger leader.

Carmela holds her MS in Family and Consumer Science from North Carolina Central University, and BS, Biology from St. Augustine’s University. She is also currently studying for her EdD at Grand Canyon University.

Starting work at fifteen in her dad and uncle’s auto repair shop answering phones and cleaning the stock room, Carmela learned early on the value of hard work. Starting from humble beginnings, she has had the opportunity to work at some great places, do some great things, and work for some great people, including her father. She has lead and learned in various volunteer capacities in her sorority, at church, and community organizations. These experiences helped develop her into the leader she today.

Facing the obstacles of leaders with poor communication skills helped her to communicate better, become intrinsically motivated herself and find ways to motivate her team. Being excluded or overlooked by leaders because of ethnicity or gender sparked her desire to give everybody a seat at the table and allowing that voice to be heard.

Having advanced her leadership skills in developing clear and compelling picture of what needs to be done and why; leading by example and motivating people to excel, she has found much joy in leadership.

International Society of Female Professionals Member, Carmela Shabazz, can be found on the Association Directory, where she is looking forward to networking with you.
